Naivasha is a Kenyan market town in Nakuru County situated Northwest of Nairobi City with a population of 181,966 recorded during the 2009 National Population Census. The main economic activity in Naivasha is Agriculture and it is also a tourism destination with National parks like Hell’s Gate National Park and Longonot National Park. Other attractions include Lake Naivasha and Mount Longonot.
Naivasha is home to colleges and universities like Naivasha Computer and Business Studies College and Kenya Wildlife Service Training Institute.


Things to do in and near Naivasha
Hells gate National Park- Located south of Lake Naivasha and named after a narrow break in the cliffs and once a tributary of a prehistoric lake that fed early humans in the Rift Valley, this place offers magnificent sceneries like water gouged gouges, volcanoes, stark rock towers and wildlife animals such as zebras, buffalos, gazelles and hartebeests and in it there are 3 basic campsites, it also has a Maasai Cultural Center which provides education about the Maasai culture, lifestyle and traditions.
Activities available in this park include rock climbing, mountain biking, nature walks, picnic in the park’s plains and enjoy a life giving moment in the natural spa cleansing your bodies.


Crescent Island Game Santuary
Crescent Island is considered to be the deepest area around Lake Naivasha protecting wildlife like giraffe, zebra, dik dik, steenbok, impala and gazelles and while at the Crescent Island you can engage yourself in nature walks around the sactuary as you view the wildlife attractions.


Lake Naivasha- Lake Naivasha is regarded as fresh water 93km North West of Nairobi deriving its name from the Maasai name Nai’posha, which translates as “rough water” because of the sudden storms occasionally arising from the lake and it boasts with a dense population of hippos and an estimated 400 different species of birds.


Kigio Wildlife Conservancy- This conservancy center is under the protection of the local community and this can be found near Gilgil in the Great Rif Valley. This conservancy center contains diverse habitat of indigenous plant species, protecting over 300 bird species including what is said to be the world’s largest population of grey-crested helmet shrikes, other wildlife attractions include; African buffalo, common eland, impala, waterbuck, hippopotamus, caracal, and other species of gazelle.


Sanctuary Horseback Safaris
This place is located on shores of Lake Naivasha on 500 acre piece of land and acts as the reliuable base for climbing Mt Longonot, rock climbing & gorge walking in Hell’s Gate, game viewing in Nakuru National Park. Activities such as horse riding, bird watching and cycling are available on this site.


Crater Lake
This place is located 10 kilometers from Naivasha town with green soda lake at the foot of an extinct volcano on the western side of Lake Naivasha on the Northern village of Kongoni with flamingoes and other species of birds but giraffes, zebras, buffaloes and elands can found in the forested area.


Mount Longonot
About 28km away from Naivasha town, Mt. Longonot is spotted when driving into the Great Rift Valley as it rises from the floor of the Rift Valley and displays beautiful views till you reach Lake Naivasha.


Lake Elementaita
Elementaita is derived from the Maasai name “Muteita” which translates as a dusty place located in Gilgil town between Lake Nakuru and Lake Naivasha. This lake is famous for the hot springs and bird life it harbors plus the incredible population of flamingoes visiting it. The reed beds near the lake are fishing grounds for night herons and pelicans. And you will not miss to visit the famous kariandusi Museum near the lake.


Ol Karia
Hell’s gate National Park hosts Ol Karia famous for its geothermal spa which offers recreational and therapeutic swimming with its Blue Lagoons whose waters are naturally heated, with temperatures ranging from 30°c to 40°c.
