Amboseli National Park was established in 1974 on a 392 square kilometer piece of land situated in Loitoktok District in the Rift Valley and its name is derived from a Maasai word which translates to “Salty dust” and it is regarded as one of the best places to visit in Africa for large elephant viewing with its eco-system mainly savannah grasslands spreading into Tanzania offering visitors of Amboseli National Park majestic views of Mount Kilimanjaro especially during sunset.
Wildlife
Amboseli National Park proudly harbors several wildlife including the giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, elephants, lions, leopards and buffalos among others attracting several tourists both locally and internationally. With game drives in place, the visitors can drive around the park to view and take photographs of the game.
Birds
Amboseli’s bird species consist of the African Jacana, the grey crested crane, goliath heron, rufous chatterer and hartlaub’s bustard among others making it one of Kenya’s best birding destination.

The local communities living around the Amboseli national park are a unique ethnic group and have protected their culture and traditions well in East Africa and they are the Maasai community famous for their rich traditional culture and way of life. Their food, dressing and dances among other practices attract more visitors.

  • Elephant Research Camp

The elephants of Amboseli are in the list of the most studied in the world because of the great work by Dr. Cynthia Moss, who is an author too and has written books like The Amboseli Elephants and Elephant Memoriesand was the brain behind a famousdocumentary DVD Echo of the Elephants and under the management of the Amboseli Trust for Elephants, the research camp is still functioning in the heart of the park.

  •  Sinet Delta

From Normatior, the northern route runs across the Sinet Delta, which is a perfect spot for bird watching, game viewing and Mount Kilimanjaro viewing.

  • Normatior (Observation Hill)

The pyramid-shaped hill is an ideal lookout from which you view the beautiful swamps, plains, and roads below you not forgetting the wildlife and the attractive views of Kilimanjaro.
