Tsavo East National Park is one of Kenya’s oldest and largest parks established in 1948 eating up the 13,474 square kilometer land in a semi-arid area formally known as Taru desert in close proximity to Voi town. It is bisected from Tsavo West National Park by a road and a railway line. These parks were named after the Tsavo River which flows from west to east with Chyulu Hills National Park bordering it and Tanzania’s Mkomazi Game Reserve.
Wildlife
The Park harbors most of the larger mammals like the red dusted elephant, Rhino, buffalo, lion, Leopard, Hippos, Crocodile, Waterbucks, Lesser Kudu, Gerenuk and Hirola making one of the big 5 destinations in Kenya and Africa.
Birds
The prolific bird life here features at least 500 recorded species that give the birders a great birding and photographic experience. These bird species include the martial eagle, chestnut-headed sparrow-lark, black faced sand grouse, white bellied bustard and golden pipit among others.

  • Game viewing

Game drives are organized for the visitors to explore the park’s game like the red dusted elephant, Rhino, buffalo, lion, Leopard, Hippos and Crocodile. Predators like the lion and leopards are hard to spot so nocturnal game drives are organized for visitors to stand a chance of spotting them.
